Crop   Dill seed

Two Dill seed varieties were released for the farmers.

1. GAVD 1

Considering the uniqueness of the variety GAVD 1 and looking to the overall performance over four  tests in Middle Gujarat condition, this genotype has gave average biomass yield under normal condition to the tune of 256.79 q/ha and showed 3.27, 17.72 and  6.65%  higher green biomass yield over the check varieties GD 1, GD 2 and GD 3, respectively. The variety GAVD 1 gives higher foliage yield due to vigorous vegetable growth and more number of branches and has dark green colour of foliage, very few big umbel with more umbellate, good aroma, high volatile oil content and produce late flowering as compared to any other culture. Therefore, this genotype can be utilized for vegetable purpose for a longer period. The variety GAVD 1 had low incidence of powdery mildew disease as compared to check varieties GD 1, GD 2 and GD 3. Therefore, this variety GAVD 1  is recommend for the cultivation in the Indian dill growing area of the Gujarat state exclusively for vegetable purpose.

2. GAD 1

The variety GAD 1 yielded 1561 kg/ha seed yield, which is 15.53 % higher over check variety GD-3 under rainfed condition whereas it yielded 1885 kg/ha seed yield which is 12.02 % higher over check variety GD-3 under irrigated condition. It is 10 days early in maturity (av. 133 days) as compared to GD-3 (143 days). The seeds are less flattened and medium in size. The genotype has more number of umbels (12.1-51.4), more number of umbellets/umbels (21.5-50.1), number of seeds/umbellets (22.0-32.7) and shorter plant height (73-127cm) compared to check variety. Looking to above characteristics, it is recommended for release in north and middle Gujarat.
