College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Anand

Genesis/History

       The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry was established by Government of Gujarat in August, 1964 and was affiliated to Sardar Patel University. It became constituent College of Gujarat Agricultural University in 1972.  Since May, 2004 it is a constituent College of Anand Agricultural University. Excellent faculty, advanced infrastructure facilities for academics, advanced research and well equipped library are the salient features of this institute of repute, making it adjudged as a front runner by the Veterinary Council of India, attracting savvy, versatile candidates from far and wide. The College recently received the “Best Veterinary College of the year Award” by Times Research Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, under the aegis of India Education Excellence Award for two consecutive years 2013 and 2014. The College has completed 51 years of its existence. 

         The lush green main campus of college houses Administrative building, sixteen Departments, Clinical Complex, an excellent Instructional Farm and Library with altogether of 65 acres of land with five Research Stations located at other locations. All departments have well established Under Graduate laboratories. The college campus has five UG boy’s hostels, one PG boy’s hostel and two girl’s hostel. A large cricket ground, basket ball ground, indoor sports facilities, gymnasium provides ample opportunity to maintain physical fitness of the students.

          The College offers graduate and post graduate study programme for Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry. From this College a total of 2255 graduates and 1078 post graduates (including Doctorate students) have earned their degrees from this college.

          The College has an excellent, highly qualified and ardently committed faculty. All research features and activities along with excellent teaching have made this College a “HUB OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCE” and final destination for higher studies. In to, this institute provides an ideal and excellent academic as well as research environment to turn out well groomed and skilled Veterinary professionals after intensive training of five and half years.

 All Research features and activities have made this College a “HUB OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCE” and final destination for higher studies.

    The Scientists and faculty members actively contribute in dissemination of scientific knowledge and information through various activities like Ambulatory Veterinary service to villages, Poultry husbandry training, organization of clinical camps, vaccination camps, women training programme, addressing calf rallies and Animal show at villages in addition to writing of popular articles for farmers, radio and T.V. talks.

    The college has been identified as a centre for Veterinary Emergency Rescue Unit (VERU), of western region of the country. The senior students are regularly given training of rescuing animals under various emergency rescues like flood, fire, earthquake etc.  

Apart from academic environment wide spectrum of extracurricular activities by various forums and clubs provide ample opportunity for student to participate in various activities and develop personalities to satisfy their hobbies. This includes Students Representative Council, Nature Club, Red Ribbon Club, Elevate Forum, N.S.S. etc.

The separate Placement Cell is keen on getting its graduate and post graduate students suitable jobs through campus interview every year.

          In toto, this institute provides an ideal and excellent academic as well as research environment to turn out well groomed and skilled Veterinary professionals after intensive training of five years.
