 Introduction

Inaugurated on May 9th, 2008 by the Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology is a dream project for the tribal people of Panchmahal District and also for the field of agricultural engineering. The college is working for the development of technology and machinery related to all the aspects of agriculture from ploughing to consumption of agricultural products. Various technologies and machineries will be developed for conventional and non-conventional energy sources to utilise the sources to its maximum will be the prime goal of this institute.

The Mandate

  1. To provide agricultural engineering inputs and trained manpower at this tribal area. As well as well as to make farming progressive by efficiently using natural resources like water, land and energy of this area.

  2. To prepare highly skilled and sound manpower by starting academic programmes like Bachelor and Master of Agricultural Engineering & Technology which can be utilized for agricultural industries and other agencies related to this field.

  3. To spread the knowledge of latest researches, recommendation and divert it towards farmers and different related agencies.

  4. To provide consultancy and advisory services to different agricultural industries, government and non – government enterprises, voluntary organisations, rural banks, etc.

Genesis/ History

Panchmahal District is a developing tribal area. In this area due to Kadana and Panam Dams availability of water is quite good. Even though it’s a mountainous area, the land is highly fertile and the local inhabitants are too entrepreneurs and hardworking. But due to poor knowledge of technology, they are having trivial income from Agriculture. Industries and business dependent on agricultural aspects are also very few at this place. If trained manpower can be prepared in this area, then by efficiently using natural resources available in this area, production of agricultural products can be increased.

For all kind of works regarding agriculture, for example, from ploughing to storing of agricultural products and to solve the difficulties experienced during different processes, the application of Engineering principle, rules and technological knowledge is termed as Agricultural Engineering.

For the enormous growth of the tribal inhabitants of this area, the Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi has sanctioned, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology (CAET) under “VANBANDHU KALYAN YOJANA” at Godhra of Panchmahal District.

  2. Soil and Water Conservation Engineering Department: Theoretical and practical knowledge of all techniques to avoid soil erosion, development of unused land, storage of rain water, well recharging, development of new equipments to store water, to use latest methods for irrigation like drip and sprinkler, methods to remove excessive water from the farm (drainage system) and to make efficient usage of soil and water will be explored in this department. In addition to this latest researches will be carried out under this department for above mentioned areas.

  3. Agricultural Process Engineering Department: Under this department, development and research activities for technology related to all the processes of agricultural products after harvesting of crops, design structures for storage, to develop technology for value addition of crops to design structures for good packaging and transporting, as well as to develop and research and technologies related to agricultural products will be focussed.

  4. Renewable Energy Engineering Department: To develop machineries and instruments for renewable energy sources like solar, bio mass, bio diesel, wind which are natural and everlasting and non polluted. Efforts will also be made for development of technology for best energy usages for farming work will be the thrust area of this department.

  5. Agricultural Engineering Extension Department: This department will work for expanding research activities related to agriculture engineering field to the farmers and to trained farmers for appropriate use of farm machinery, tractor, power tiller, maximum use of sprinkler and drip irrigation sets and bio gas plants and technologies to develop value added products. Counselling and training programme will also be organized for tribal inhabitants of this area to make them completely independent.
