ABOUT BREEDS:
Three breeds taken
into consisderation are
1.Zalawadi.
2.Gohilwadi
3.Surti.
Experimental derived data of Amplicon
fragments of these three breed's DNA are taken for carrying out population assignment
All these three breeds are mainly found in Gujarat.
Blood was collected from all this breeds
and their DNA was sequenced ,amplified and probed with the above mentioned 18
microsatellite loci
which gave us their Amplicon fragments.
ABOUT MARKERS:
It is essential to characterize the germ plasm for intergenetic variability which will help in planning for conservation strategy as genetic improvement.Micro Satellite pairs were chosen from the list suggested by "International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG)".
Markers used are: Ilsts029, Ilsts109, JMP29, Ilsts033, Ilsts030, HH64, Ilsts065, ETH225, Ilsts002, Ilsts005, Ilsts008, Ilsts034, Ilsts049, Ilsts082, Ilsts087, OMHC1, RM004, RM088.

CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES OF THE BREEDS:
| ZALAWADI: |
Zalawadi breed is distributed in Surendranagar and Rajkot district of Gujarat They are large animals having black coat and long corse hair .Ears are long, wide, leaf -like and droping. Both sexes have long twisted horns, pointed upward. |
| GOHILWADI: | Gohilwadi breed is distributed in Bhavnagar,Amreli and Junagadh district of Gujarat . They are large animals covered with long black coarse hairs, ears are tubular and droping.Both sexes have slightly twisted horns which are turn backward. |
| SURTI: | Home tract of surti goat is South Gujatrat, Surat , Bharuch , Navasari , Valsad , and Vadodara district . This are medium sized animals , generally white in body color , with developed udder and large conical teats, ears are medium sized.Both Sexes have small horns directed backwards. |
