In a first of its kind move, all four agriculture universities of Gujarat are switching over to online admissions for Post Graduate Programmes from this academic year. So far, aspirants of only MCA and MBA faculty had this option while aspirants seeking admission in traditional courses offered by universities across Gujarat have to run from pillar to post.

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) has initiated common admission for Post Graduate Programmes to colleges of all agriculture universities in Gujarat. Students wanting to shape their career in agriculture sector will be able to apply for admissions in courses of their choice online at colleges managed by Junagadh Agricultural University, Naysari Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University apart from AAU.

For the second consecutive year(2011-12), for UG programme, Anand Agricultural University (AAU), Anand has given common admission to colleges of all agriculture universities in Gujarat. Students wanting to shape their career in agriculture sector will be able to apply for admissions in courses of their choice online at colleges managed by Junagadh Agricultural University, Navsari Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Kamdhenu University – Amreli apart from AAU.

Anand Agricultural University has set up new email setup with Windows live of Microsoft Corporation. Windows Live Mail is the latest email client from Microsoft Corporation. Touted as the big brother of the popular Outlook Express. Windows Live Mail offers the user friendly interface with several added features.

Windows Live Mail is a comfortable email program that lets you access IMAP, POP and Windows Live Hotmail accounts with verve and ambition to connect with Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Calendar, your blog and RSS news feeds, too. Windows Live Mail offers solid spam filters, fast search and a few ready-made search folders, but it could do better helping you organize and manage mail.

Anand Agricultural University, Anand has developed new dynamic website. Website has 2-tier authentication.  The website has dynamic uploading for all the colleges, extension centers, research centers, etc.

The dynamic updation of the site from the concern end user is under admin approval process. Furthermore this website has some pages in regional language (i.e Gujarati) so that farmers of Gujarat can get benefit from that.

Anand Agricultural University has successfully implemented the online recruitment process for class – III cadre, it is a first of its kind move in state agricultural university.

• Web Based Application for Soil Health Card Programme

Government of Gujarat has selected the Anand Agricultural University to establish and implement the state wide programme on Soil Health Card. Under this programme, centre has developed the web-base application software, which generates and provides the fertilizer recommendations on the basis of soil analysis and the nutrient requirements of the crop for each field. This will increase the efficiency of the fertilizer and saving in consumption of the fertilizer.

On the basis of Moisture Availability Index and other soil and meteorological parameters, Soil Health Card programme also advises the individual farmer for the selection of crop and cropping system for his field with economic benefit. It also provides cultivation practices for all the crops.

The action plan for the agricultural production at taluka and village level is available under this programme to coordinate the efforts of all the functionaries.

The web-sites for agricultural universities, Department of Agril, Department of Animal Husbandry, Department of Horticulture and other Boards / Corporations engaged in agriculture has been established under this program, which provide information regarding different schemes, statistics, working system etc.

• National Knowledge Network (NKN):

Convergence of IT and communication (often referred to as ICT), and exponential growth in the communication capacity opens up new vistas for application of these technologies. ICT, when properly deployed in a country, has the potential of solving major challenges faced by human race, such as, Climate Change, Energy Security, Green Design, and so on. Besides, ICT coupled with processing power is a potent instrument for any planning process. ICT, when properly harnessed, can render the country flat (devoid of social inequities) and convert it to knowledge society. The National Knowledge Network is an initiative in that direction to enable India leapfrog into Knowledge Society and Knowledge Economy.

After IIT-Gandhinagar, Anand Agriculture University (AAU) has become the second institution in the state to be included under National Knowledge Network.

The Department of Information Technology under the Ministry of Communication and IT has recently included AAU as a centre of the National Knowledge Network (NKN) along with 26 others. The main objective of NKN is to interconnect libraries, laboratories, agricultural institutions enabling nationwide sharing of data and resources.

The important objective of NKN service is to establish connectivity among member institutions to enable collaborative research in emerging areas such as climate modeling, bio-informatics and agriculture.

Moreover, the network will facilitate distance education in specialised fields such as medicine and other departments which depend heavily on wide-ranging research.
