Agriculture Research Station, Khambholaj

The Khambholaj farm is located at Umreth-Vasad high way. It is 2 km away from Khambholaj village and 20 km away from Anand Agricultural University, Anand head quarter. Previously, this land was under the Gram Panchayat but now the AAU, Anand has taken the possession on February, 2009.The total area of this farm is 31.64 ha. The soil is sandy loam. The main Mahi Kadana Canal is passing nearby the farm and sub-minor canal is passing into the farm so there is good facility of irrigation. The quality of irrigation water is also good.

MANDATE OF FARM

Two new plan schemes has been sanction during Eleventh Five Year Plan at Khambholaj farm in 2010.The details of these schemes are as under.

  1. To carry out the research work on fruit crops like mango, chiku, pomegranate, guava, lime, amala etc of Agro-climatic Zone-III.
  2. To carry out agricultural research work to increase the yield potentiality and quality of fruit crops.
  3. To study and solve the local problems related to the fruit crops grown in middle Gujarat.
  4. Introduction of arid and semi-arid region of fruit crops and find out the suitability to grow in the middle Gujarat and to study the agronomic package of practices for such fruit crops.
    1. Development of potato varieties and its Agro-technologies for middle Gujarat at Khambholaj
      MANDATE OF FARM
      1. To evolve high yielding varieties with better quality traits as well as resistant to diseases and pests.
      2. To identified suitable varieties for different processing purposes/value addition i.e. chips, fingers, wafers etc
      3. To find out remunerative production and protection technologies of potato for middle Gujarat.
      4. To multiply the seeds of different varieties to cater the needs of farmers.
    2. Research in Papaya crop
      MANDATE OF FARM
      1. To develop new varieties of papaya fruit crops.
      2. To evaluate different varieties of papaya crop and identify better varieties for middle Gujarat region.
      3. To standardize cultivation practices of papaya crop.
      4. To standardize the method of control of viral diseases (yellow mosaic) and other pests as well as diseases.
