The All India Co-ordinated Research Project on weed control in intensive irrigated areas of middle Gujarat came into operation from April 26, 1982 at the Gujarat Agricultural University, Anand Campus Anand now Anand Agricultural University, Anand with the financial assistance of PL-480. It was initially started with the eight positions viz., one Agronomist, one Junior Agronomist, Senior Research Assistants, one Field Assistant, one Lab Assistant, one Senior Clerk and one Jeep Driver up to five years (1982 to 1987). However, during seventh five year plan the project was financed by ICAR, New Delhi, wherein one position of Jr. Agronomist was re-designated as Jr. Physiologist, whereas two positions of Senior Research Assistants were upgraded and re-designated as Jr. Ecologist and Jr. Residue Chemist. The centre was further strengthened by providing two supporting positions viz; one lab Attendant and one Messenger. In the eighth five-year plan, the post of Jr. Ecologist was re-designated as Jr. Agronomist and Jr. Physiologist as Jr. Microbiologist.

          The technical programme is finalized for implementation aiming towards achieving the objectives of the project. The annual technical programme is approved by the Director, Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur. The technologies developed are discussed in the state level scientific committee (AGRESCO) and included in the crop production guide published by the Director of Research, Anand Agricultural University and Director of Extension Education, Anand Agricultural University for the benefit of farmers.
