Introduction

          

        Krushi Vigyan Kendra, Anand Agricultural University, Devataj is situated on border of ‘Charotar’ as well as ‘Bhal’ tract of Gujarat state. It is 2 km from Sojitra; taluka head quarter and in south 30 km away from Anand; district head quarter. KVK Devataj came into existence and started functioning from November 20, 1985 with financial assistance from I.C.A.R. New Delhi under the administrative control of Gujarat Agricultural University, Sardar Krushinagar. Presently KVK is under Anand Agricultural University, Anand.  KVK has 17.85 ha land covering Administrative building, Farmers  hostel, Quarters with well established Soil testing laboratory, Mother orchard of Sapota, Horticulture Nursery, Fish Nursery Pond, Ornamental fish unit and NADEP Unit. Out of 16 sanctioned posts at present 11 posts are filled up and 5 posts are vacant.

            Anand district is popular as “Charotar”. District is spread between the river Shedhi and Mahisagar. Anand district situated between 22.07° to 23.29° N latitude and 72.15° to 73.18° E longitude with 2951.10 sq.km areas. The charotar area has a medium fertile soil known as “Golden leaf” (Tobacco). Charotar area is number one in tobacco production in the state. Amul dairy is situated in Anand district is one of the biggest in Country. Anand District is an important district in Central region. Anand is formed with 365 villages in 8 Talukas namely (1) Anand (2) Borsad (3) Ankalav (4) Khambhat (5) Petlad (6) Sojitra (7) Tarapur (8) Umareth. Total population of the district is about 19 lakh. Male and female population is 52.35 and 47.65%, respectively of the total population. Of the total population 5.30 and 1.23% is of SC and ST population, respectively. In general, the soils of the Anand district are of two types. Well drain Goradu soil of Umreth, Anand, Borsad, Ankalav and part of Petlad Talukas. Saline medium black soil of Khambhat, Tarapur, Sojitra and part of Petlad talukas.  The main source of irrigation is canal irrigation of Mahi irrigation Project and remaining is with lift irrigation. Average rain fall is 700-800 mm.
