Dr. K. B. Kathiria, Director of Research & Dean PG Studies, Anand Agricultural University, Anand is a first class B.Sc.(Agri.) graduate from the then Gujarat Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar. He obtained his M.Sc. (Agri.) degree from University of Udaipur (Raj.) and Ph.D. degree from Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, respectively in the year 1981 and 1992.
Dr. K. B. Kathiria has initiated his career from the then Gujarat Agricultural University as Senior Research Assistant, Wheat Research Station, GAU, Junagadh in the year 1981. After serving as Senior Research Assistant for about more than five years, he became Assistant Research Scientist, Oil Seeds Research Station, GAU, Junagadh in the year 1986 and then after for about eight years he became Associate Research Scientist in the year 1994. He joined as Research Scientist (Veg.) in the year 2002 and then in the year 2011 he has selected under direct recruitment as Director of Research and Dean PG Studies, AAU, Anand. He also accomplished duty as in-charge Vice Chancellor, AAU, Anand from 30th April to 6th August 2014. Dr. Kathiria has also more than 21 years experience of PG teaching and so far he has guided 29 PG students in his specialized discipline and among them two Ph.D. students have obtained Best Thesis awards. Moreover, Dr. Kathiria has also visited Israel in the year 2000 under the protected cultivation technology based research training programme sponsored by the Govt. of Israel.
Dr. K. B. Kathiria also handled many National and State level research projects sponsored by various agencies such as Central and State Governments as well as Private Sectors, which are being conducted at university level on different aspects of research purpose.
Dr. Kathiria has rendered significant contribution in development of agriculture as an agricultural scientist. He has played important role for development of 34 varieties of different crops as well as development of agro technologies (24 at State and 7 at National level). He has deposited more than 90 germplasms of vegetable crops at NBPGR, New Delhi for its preservation. His contribution is quite noteworthy for development of the prominent wheat varieties GW 496, which is cultivated throughout the state and 25 varieties of different vegetable crops.
Dr. Kathiria has been honoured by the different eminent wards viz.; Sardar Patel award by the Government of Gujarat, Krushi Seva Award by the Western Agri Seeds Pvt. Ltd., Gandhinagar and Western Seeds Sardar Patel Agricultural Research Award by the Western Seeds Sardar Patel Society, Ahmedabad for the development of varieties of different vegetable crops. He also been awarded by the Fellow of the Indian Society of Genetic & Plant Breeding by the Indian Society of Genetic & Plant Breeding, New Delhi for the Academic Achievements.
