The Agricultural Research Station, Derol was established in the year 1958, as a testing centre for oilseeds crops. Then after during 1962, the scheme on drilled paddy research was started to serve this station as drilled rice research centre for whole of the Gujarat state. The station was transferred from the State Department of Agriculture to the Gujarat Agricultural University, after its establishment in 1972. The paddy research was further strengthened with the sanction of Paddy Research Scheme ( drilled ) during Fifth Five Year Plan. The project on intensification of research and training on pulses and oilseeds crops was initiated during 1980 which was terminated in 1983. Besides these schemes, considering needs of the farmers of the region, National Agricultural Research Project was started in May 1983 at this centre to undertake multidisciplinary research on drilled rice, oilseeds and pulses. A plan scheme entitled “Genetic Enhancement and Production Technologies of Pulses, Cereals and Oilseeds” was started in the 10th Five Year Plan (27.5.2008). Another plan scheme entitled “Genetic Enhancement and Production Technologies of Major Crops Grown in Tribal Areas” was started in the same FYP (28.5.2008). During the 2015-16, a plan scheme entitled “Genetic Enhancement and Production Technologies of Clusterbean (Guar) for Yield and Quality” was sanctioned.
