           The  Agricultural  Research  Station,  Derol was established in the year  1958, as  a  testing  centre  for  oilseeds crops.  Then  after  during  1962,  the  scheme  on  drilled  paddy  research  was  started  to  serve  this  station  as  drilled  rice  research  centre  for  whole  of  the  Gujarat  state.  The  station  was  transferred  from  the  State  Department  of  Agriculture  to  the  Gujarat  Agricultural  University,  after  its establishment  in  1972.  The  paddy  research  was  further  strengthened  with the sanction  of  Paddy  Research  Scheme  ( drilled )  during  Fifth  Five  Year  Plan.  Derol  Centre  of  Anand  Agricultural University,  is  the  main  Research  Station  in  Gujarat with  the  mandate  to  take  up multidisciplinary research  work  on drilled paddy  to  meet  the  need of developing  production  technologies  for  increasing  production  of  drilled  paddy of  Gujarat. The station  is  also  working  for  multidisciplinary  research  on crop  like  groundnut  and  mustard  as  well  as  on pulse  crop  like  pigeonpea,  mungbean  urdbean, chickpea, clusterbean and sunhemp. It  also  serve  as  seed production  unit  for maize, drilled paddy, castor, greengram, pigeonpea, chickpea,  clusterbean  and  other  pulse  crops. The  bus station  is  located 1 km away from Kalol town which is on Vadodara –  Godhra   state   highway   and  1 km away  from  Derol  railway  station (Vadodara –  Delhi  B. G. Line ). The mandates and brief salient achievement of this centre are given as below.

 

Mandets

1. Breeding for drilled paddy varieties for early maturing with high yield and good market demand.

2. To work as one of the testing centres for pulses, oil seeds and cereals.

3. To develop location specific production technologies for pigeonpea, greengram, blackgram, castor, groundnut and maize.

4. To develop the plant protection technologies for important crops.

5. Seed production, processing and distribution of seeds of various crops. 

6. To conduct adaptive trials of new high yielding varieties and technologies at farmer’s fields for technology dissemination.
