North Coat Cattle Breeding Farm, Chharodi

The North Cote Cattle Breeding Farm, Chharodi was established in 1899-1900 with an aim to preserve and maintain a nucleus stock for future development of the breed, which has threatened from extinction due to the severe famine of century.The main objective of the N.C.Farm, Chharodi was to preserve and maintaining the kankrej breed. This farm was also interested in producing good kankrej bullocks and bulls.-During this time, good quality bullocks and breeding bulls were produced by this farm and were given to the farmers for improving kankrej cattle from 1919-1940. This farm was under the Department of the Agricultural and Livestock, Bombay State from April, 1940. The work was assigned to the Institute of Agricultural, Anand. After the establishment of Gujarat Agricultural University, this farm was transferred to Gujarat Agricultural University in the year 1972 with a land of 820.23 ha. This farm is handed over to Anand Agricultural University, Anand from May, 2004.
