College of Food Processing Technology & Bio Energy, Anand

Genesis/History

 

A Department of Agricultural Product Process Engineering (APPE) was established at the Anand campus of erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University during 1977-78 with the ICAR support for conducting research for reduction of post-harvest losses, development of low cost processing machinery for local needs and for standardization of traditional processing technology for commercial scale adoption. In the year of 2004-05, on formation of Anand Agricultural University, the Department of APPE was upgraded as Faculty of Food Processing Technology & Bio Energy to serve as a post graduate teaching and research unit and also to provide advisory services to the farmers and prospective entrepreneurs. Considering the huge demand of the specialized human resource for the fast growing sectors of food industry, the Anand Agricultural University has established a full-fledged College of Food Processing Technology & Bio-Energy in the year of 2008-09 vide Government of Gujarat, Department of Agriculture & Cooperation Notification No - ACV- 122008 - 404 - C.2 dated 29-05-2008 and started offering B. Tech, M. Tech & Ph. D. programmes in the discipline of Food Processing Technology. To maintain the uniformity of nomenclature of degree as per the recommendation of ICAR (Vth Deans Committee), in 2016, the degree nomenclatures have been revised to B. Tech. (Food Technology), M. Tech. & Ph.D. (Food Technology) with specialization in Food Processing Technology, Food Process Engineering and Food Safety and Quality Assurance.
