Departmental History – Background information vision – Goal

The Department of Horticulture started functioning at the College of Agriculture, AAU, Vaso in the year 2018, however the courses related to horticulture were offered since 2012. The Department of Horticulture at the College of Agriculture, AAU, Vaso is immensely engaged in teaching, research and extension activities and also in preparing planting materials for selling to the farmers. The department has developed orchards and poly-house for demonstration and practical exposure to the students as well as farmers.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To teach horticultural subjects to the students and to increase interest of students in horticultural crops.
  2. To perform research on horticultural crops for farmers’ welfare.
  3. To conduct and participate in extension activities.

FACILITIES

1.Practical Classroom:
Department of Horticulture has a well-furnished practical classroom equipped with computer, sound system, LCD projector, and internet facilities
2.Practical Laboratory:
Department of Horticulture has a well-furnished laboratory with different types of equipments, tools, educational charts, seed samples, etc.
3.Net House-cum-Nursery:
Department of Horticulture has developed a small scale net-house cum nursery to prepare grafts of custard apple, sapota, jamun and to raise seedlings of like citrus, phalsa, drumstick, guava, custard apple, jamun, rayan, etc. for practical exposure to students and for selling to the farmers.
4.Poly House:
Department of Horticulture has developed two poly houses i.e. naturally-ventilated poly house, and fan and pad poly house for the ELP students for the practical exposure of the protected cultivation of the horticultural crops.
5.Fruit Orchards
Department of Horticulture has developed three orchards of sapota, ber, and pomegranate for research and practical exposure purpose.
