Processing and Food Engineering

The Department of Processing and Food Engineering is mainly engaged in teaching to Under Graduate and Post Graduate students. It offers various courses like Engineering Properties of Agricultural Produce, Agricultural Structures and Environmental Control, Post Harvest Engineering of Cereals, Pulses and Oil Seeds, Post Harvest Engineering of Horticultural Crops, Dairy and Food Engineering, Food Packaging Technology, Development of Processed Products and Equipment, Transport Phenomena in Food Processing, Engineering Properties of Food Materials, Advance Food Process Engineering, Unit Operations in Food Process Engineering, Processing of Cereals, Pulses and Oil Seeds, Fruits and Vegetables Engineering, Farm buildings and Environmental Control, Storage Engineering and Handling of Environmental Control, Textural and Rheological Characteristics of Food Materials, Advances in Food Processing, Advances in Drying of Food Materials to the UG/PG students.

The research project based on local and future needs of the farmers and entrepreneurs are given to the final year under graduate and postgraduate students as a part of their academic research work. Department has Process Engineering Laboratory, Agricultural Structures and Environmental Control Laboratory and Food Engineering Laboratory and Processing Plant to provide practical knowledge and also to demonstrate and organize training to farmers, entrepreneurs etc.  Many farmers, women and local peoples, NGO and others often visit the department to gain knowledge of processing technology. The working principle and its usefulness of the machines, equipment is demonstrated to the visitors. They are also familiarized with the new developments like agricultural processing of grains, different storage techniques, cleaning and grading machines and different type of mills and dryers.

The department also participates in Agricultural Fares, Exhibitions, and Farmers day organized by Universities or State Governments or other agencies and arranges the demonstration of processing technologies etc. to the farmers. The senior and experienced professors also deliver lectures on the special topics related to the post harvest handling / management, value addition etc. in the short term training programmes arranged by the colleges/university/state government for the benefits of the farmers, technicians and rural youths.
